Pompano Beach in Florida, as well as the surrounding area, has a lot to offer if you feel like taking a breather. My goal was truly to relax, especially since my last vacation involved a lot of coordination and scheduling. I purposely planned to leave it unplanned this time.
Avoid getting a sun burn on your first day, and try to eat well even though you are indulging. For example, I felt crappy after eating Dandee Donuts every morning but sneaking a salad in for lunch every now and then kept me feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Some recommendations for your Champagne Weekend in Pompano:
- Day trip to Delray. This bopping little town has a great little strip of shops, bars and restaurants. I recommend a mimosa at Boheme Bistro, which has an impressive bar complete with a chandelier. There is also the Pineapple Grove Arts District, but be sure to do your research and see what’s open before you decide to go. (Sunday was not a good day to go.)
- Romantic evening in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Bart and I enjoyed several dinners in this tiny tourist area, including flatbread pizzas and homemade creme brulee at 101Ocean, and bimini bread with Aruba glaze served with whipped honey butter at Aruba Beach Cafe. After dinner at either of these spots, you can walk right onto the beach and take a stroll under the stars.
- Plenty of time at the beach. It’s easy for a “planner” like me to get caught up in activities during vacation, but honestly bumming around with a stack of novels, bottled water and snacks was all the activity I needed. The highlight of my vacation was taking a nap on the balcony as the sun set over the ocean. The warm breeze and ocean sounds put me right to sleep and I awoke feeling incredibly refreshed.
